Now the DNS name appears to have expired as it doesn't even resolve. Has this project been abandoned? I guess since there hasn't been a commit since 2015 that might be the answer.

Well, it's been a year since my comment, and 2 years since this issue was opened. I'd say that's pretty definitive.

there's a bunch of forks where people seem to be still be maintaining stuff for their respective usecases. as long as someone doesn't take the time trying to become the official maintainer, ideally with blessing from @benoitc, I'm guessing that's how it's going to stay. the codebase looks clean and simple enough - if I'd be tasked to start a new couchdb+python project I'd do it, unfortunately that's not the case for me in the near future.
