Clients using ssh should re-establish lost connections on subsequent api calls

It would be nice if we could re-establish the ssh connection automatically if lost. Alternatively would it be so horrible to just establish a new ssh connection on each request?

This is a low priority issue for me personally as I only use ssh support when testing/playing locally on macOS.
