first off, thanks @bnoordhuis, this is much needed. is there anything in particular you need help with going forward? I've gone down this path a few times for plv8, only to back out every time, but if you have some good progress, I'm happy to help where I can!

Hi Jerry, going by the feedback I receive through this bug tracker I suspect it's working well enough at the moment for most people's needs.

I would like to fix #60 but that's probably not very straightforward. #4 is another one but also not exactly straightforward and not that many people seem to be clamoring for it (edit: fewer than I would've expected, at any rate.)

thanks ben! #60 isn't a requirement for me, actually likely more of a curse since we use slightly different build flags and that causes crashes for others that use the shared library (or us if compiled by another package). but #4 would be awesome. i will see if I can peel off any time to take a closer look at #4.
