Can we derive this from the BMA180 driver? If so, that would save significant effort.

Aye, that's where I've started. Some registers are different, but the overall way to interact with the chip is really similar.

@highlunder, Progress is a little slow, as we've been distracted by some other robotics development at the moment. We'll see if we can't push what we have to a branch, if you'd like to help develop.

That would be useful! No promises on how much I would be able to contribute back as my target platform is Contiki (https://github.com/contiki-os/contiki/), but I'd hope there would be some generic/reusable code.
