Correct this sentence about clay tablets and scrolls...tablets didn't replace scrolls, but I know what you meant! Also, the dates need to be corrected for clay tablets and scrolls. Clay tablets being used for writing go back to 3,000 BC (5,000 years ago) in Mesopotamia. Papyrus and scrolls were being used in Ancient Egypt around 2,500 BC (4,500 years ago).

Change: "The first books were thick slabs of clay created about 2,000 years ago, which quickly replaced scrolls as the preferred way to consume the written word."

To: "The first books were thick slabs of clay created about 2,000 5,000 years ago, which were quickly replaced by scrolls as the preferred way to consume the written word."

Kurt, thanks for mentioning this. I'm editing Brad's book and I've already picked up both points (the dates and what replaced what) in my edits branch. When Brad will get around to changing things, I don't know, but watch this space.

It may be worth pointing out that scrolls do have pages.
