Description

Brave on freezes or hangs intermittently even with hardware acceleration disabled, which I have read has helped the issue for others. This happens several times a day, and it does not seem to be when I have any particular website or type of website open.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Disable Use hardware acceleration when available in brave://settings/system
  2. Have multiple tabs open perhaps (right now I had 3 open but I know it has happened when I have more like 10 open)
  3. Browse normally

Actual result:

Several times a day Brave becomes completely unresponsive and frozen. If I wait sometimes after ~15-60 seconds it will start responding, but oftentimes I have to manually kill the process.

Expected result:

Browsing without freezing.

Reproduces how often:

Depends on how much I am using Brave on a given day, it could happen 10 times over a normal college.

Desktop Brave version:

Brave 1.14.81 Chromium: 85.0.4183.102 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Revision ffe848af6a5df4fa127e2929331116b7f9f1cb30-refs/branch-heads/4183@{#1770}
OS Linux - Ubuntu 20.04.1

Version/Channel Information:

  • Can you reproduce this issue with the current release?

I am using main release from https://brave-browser-apt-release.s3.brave.com/

  • Can you reproduce this issue with the beta channel?
  • Can you reproduce this issue with the nightly channel?

Untested.

Other Additional Information:

  • Does the issue resolve itself when disabling Brave Shields?

I have set Trackers & ads blocking to disabled for testing.

  • Does the issue resolve itself when disabling Brave Rewards?

Already disabled.

  • Is the issue reproducible on the latest version of Chrome?

Miscellaneous Information:

I was using the Ad Block Plus extension which I have now removed.

This still happens with Trackers & ads blocking set to disabled.

This is happening to me as well. Suddenly brave will stop responding to input and the only way to get around it is to task switch to an open terminal and kill the brave processes.

This bug is hit every day on Ubuntu. How can I develop a meaningful stack trace to send to you guys?
