Description

The Brave browser currently lacks support for WebGPU. This limitation prevents users from utilizing the full potential of WebGPU-based applications and experiences within the Brave ecosystem.

The question i would like to ask in this issue: is there any status on development in this feature for the brave browser?

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install the Brave browser.
  2. Go to a website like WebGPU Test.

Actual result:

WebGPU is not supported on this browser

Expected result:

The application or website should function as in any other chromium based browser.

Desktop Brave version:

Version: 1.52.117
Chromium: 114.0.5735.90
Revision: 386bc09e8f4f2e025eddae123f36f6263096ae49-refs/branch-heads/5735@{#1052}

Version/Channel Information:

In the stable branch this issue is still occurring, however i am not currently aware of the status within other brave channels.

Other Additional Information:

WebGPU is supported on other major browsers like Chrome, Edge and Opera.

This works for me using

Brave 1.53.76 Chromium: 114.0.5735.90 (Official Build) beta (x86_64)
Revision 386bc09e8f4f2e025eddae123f36f6263096ae49-refs/branch-heads/5735@{#1052}
OS macOS Version 11.7.7 (Build 20G1345)

Mind trying a 1.53.x or 1.54.x build from either https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/releases or https://brave.com/download-beta/ / https://brave.com/download-nightly/?

Can you also specify which platform you're on? I tested quickly on macOS, Big Sur.

Rigth now i am on Windows 11 22H2. But yeah seems like i might want to use the beta channels if i want to test out new features. I will probably close this Issue. Thank you for the response. Thenk again i would like it if it came into the stable channel.

Then again what is the status on the stable?

Hello, I'm on v1.62.162 and https://toji.github.io/webgpu-test/ is still broken for me. Mind reopening this issue?

I'm having the same issue as @tengkuizdihar. Currently trying to figure out what goes wrong. I'm on Ubuntu 23.10 with Brave Version 1.64.116 Chromium: 123.0.6312.105 (Official Build) (64-bit).

I'm having the same issue

Brave = Version 1.65.126 Chromium: 124.0.6367.118 (Official Build) unknown (64-bit)
OS = Arch
Install+launch method = using the brave flatpak with flatpak GPU acceleration flag (enabled it through flatseal)

I know @Peter-The-Great said they were on Windows. But for @samvv I needed to enable brave://flags/#enable-unsafe-webgpu and brave://flags/#enable-vulkan and am now getting 60fps. Getting very low frames in Chrome with those same changes but that could be irrelevant

Error: WebGPU is not supported in this browser!

This is happening on the newest Brave v1.73.97 on Linux.

Same issue on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS with Brave Version 1.74.48 Chromium: 132.0.6834.83 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Any idea?

Finally I found a solution. Running Brave with: /usr/bin/brave-browser-stable --enable-unsafe-webgpu --enable-features=Vulkan %U make WebGPU working (to test: https://webgpureport.org/).
