autocomplete search results not appearing when using IME under Win/Linux

Description

Autocomplete search results are not working when using IME under both Windows and Linux.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Use the STR mentioned in When using IME results are shown before selection is made #9139.

Actual result:

Once you've completed an entry via IME, autocomplete should display the appropriate search results.

Expected result:

Search results are not being displayed once you've finished inputting text into the URL bar via IME.

Reproduces how often:

100% reproducible using the above STR.

Yes, currently reproducible on 0.21.24 19c78a1 which is the latest released version.

Additional Information

CC'ing @bsclifton and @darkdh. We had a quick video call so @darkdh could help us setup IME on Linux. We noticed that the search results weren't being displayed via autocomplete. Reproduced under Windows 10 x64 as well.
