If I ever come up with an idea (once I have a better understanding of both), I'll let you know. But what you say makes sense. Especially:
I didn't think of that but when you say it, I see the point. As a non-developer, I guess I was too focused on opportunities for "out-sourcing". But it just strikes me that I recently basically used the same argument myself in a discussion about using or not using templates in a home automation system. Interesting!
Thank you for sharing this plugin! I hope to digg deeper into it soon. At the moment, I am just generating new notes on various AI related concepts at unorecedented rates rather than fiddling with plugins... |

I'm sorry but aren't JSON files limited to 1 GB? I actually use this to manage several websites and write content with factual data. The possibilities are endless. Basically, we are recreating Mem,io with Obsidian, without the ridiculous Mem ai generations prices. |

I am working my way into the whole text-embedding field. I created a canvas in my Obsidian vault in which I'm trying to map the different apps/approaches/technologies available (or perhaps I should say: under development).
For each app/approach, I'm trying to answer a couple of questions, such as
text-embedding-ada-002
)?These questions are in constant flux as I learn about what dimensions are worth comparing or for understanding text-embedding more broadly. For example, when I learned that smart connections plugin stores the vectors locally, I added this as a salient question. Another emerging dimension seems to be to what extent the app is open source and, perhaps more importantly, to what extent it is locking users into OpenAI's models (with the ChatGPT retrieval plugin obviously sitting at one end of that spectrum).
But I have not been able to find much information on how the plugin works behind the scenes, i.e. questions 2, 4, 5, and 6. This may well be due to my limited understanding of how embeddings work (for example, it is beginning to dawn on me that question 4 is more or less the same for all) but I would nevertheless appreciate any clarifications you might be able to provide.
To be a bit more specific, I guess one thing I'm trying to understand is whether smart connections is building on any existing embedding solutions (e.g. langchain, Llamaindex, embedbase, ...) or building something new from the ground up.
P.S: I have seen the high-level answer to question 6 in this post, but even though I'm not a developer, it is a bit too high level for me. I would like to better understand how embeddings are leveraged to achieve these features. Of course, I fully respect if you're not willing to share these things at this point.
