Iconic Bridges of SrinagarName: Sheikh Uzair Hussain I have chosen to create this schematic map of the iconic bridges of Srinagar because it is my hometown, and I am deeply connected to its rich history and culture. The targeted audience for this map includes tourists, history enthusiasts, and locals who wish to explore or rediscover the city's architectural heritage. The design choices for this map were made to highlight both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the city's bridge network. I opted for a blend of traditional and minimalist style with clear, bold lines to represent the bridges and canals, ensuring that the map is easy to read and visually appealing. Each bridge is named to emphasize its historical significance, and the soft, pastel background contrasts with the prominent blue of the river and bridges, drawing the viewer's attention to these crucial landmarks. I chose serif typefaces (Abril Fatface and Playfair Display) for the map text to evoke a sense of tradition and timelessness, reflecting the historical importance of these structures. The inclusion of a brief descriptive text aims to provide context and entice viewers to explore the architectural marvels of Srinagar, while the compass rose ensures orientation. This map not only serves as a practical guide but also as a tribute to the serene beauty and heritage of Srinagar. OriginalTracedSchematic (using Figma) |

Assignment-2Name : Rajesh SahaRoll : 21F1006304Introduction:Swami Vivekananda is considered as one of the greatest spiritual leader and social worker of India. He was born in Calcultta (now Kolkata) in 1863. As the assignment, here I have shown the schematic map of the major places where he was born, got learnings and worked in Kolkata. This will serve as a guide map to the tourists who want to visit all the places which were most important to Swamiji's life and can be visited in one day by car. Mental MapThe River Ganga is considered as reference. There are 2 parallel roads on the eastern and western bank, namely B.T. Road and G.T. Road. The railway lines and nearby rail stations are also considered as major landmarks and influences the road network. Actual map from maps.google.comThe source is Swamiji's House (Vivekananda Road) and final destination is Belur Math. The interim destinations are Ramakrishna Math at Baranagar, Dakshineswar Kali Temple at Dakshineswar. Tracing on the above real mapTracing is done on the above map. The color for the tracing has been choosen as per Swamiji's attire. Mostly 45-90 tracing has been done. However, due to bend of the river and accordingly, the curves in the road, all the tracing are not purely in 45-90 degrees. An approximation is done near the temple, as the road shown on the map is not really for car driving and the tourists are supposed to walk there. This is known to the people who regularly visits there or stays near by. In between prominent locationsOther prominent establishments are shown here, which will help tourist to have mental maps, understand their locations, or use a different transportation if required, or drop or join with other tourists. For this purpose, I have shown Girish Park Metro Station, Shobhabazar Metro Station, Indian Statistical Institute, Ballyghat Rail Station, Belur Rail station and Belur Math Rail Station. Rail/Metro Stations are shown as green triangle, Indian statistical Institute is shown as red circle and the places of visit are shown as red star. Final schematic viewIn this schematic view, I have shown the necessary routes, river along with bridge to cross, and icons with label and distances. The team color has been choosen as per Swamiji's attire. |

Assignment 2 - Data Visualization Design (May 2024) Name: Dhibin Vikash K P Title: Map of the village of Indpur, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh The chosen village of Indpur has a population of around 4500 people and majorly suffers from problems in the areas of lack of a sustainable source of income. The idea of the map is to understand the overall presence of multiple types of houses, schools, medical shops, and the presence of multiple types of vegetation, which could prove to be a potential source of income for the villagers. So, a mental model of the whole sketch was first made, and then a relevant map of the whole village with all 8 wards was compared to arrive at the final sketch. The targeted audience for this map includes government officials, NGOs/any other independent bodies who wish to explore/ bring about any developmental plans to the village. The design choices for this map were made to highlight the presence of residential and agricultural land in the village. The whole village was not only present on an inclined terrain but also lacked many basic amenities like drainage and drinking water, and hence, efforts were made to ensure that all these attributes were clearly captured on the map.
