Rust Support

More and more of the protobuf and Envoy ecosystems are using Rust. Is it time for Rust support in protoc-gen-validate?

Sure! Any thoughts on what that would look like? I'm more than happy to review PRs in this area.

I opened the issue to get some attention on this feature as it might interest other people than me. I don't have the Rust expertise to develop this though. I would advice for something like the multi-error approach in Go so we can return all errors in an INVALID_ARGUMENT gRPC error through a single Rust interceptor.

I want to let you know that there's a similar request for Rust support in the protovalidate project, which you can find here: Issue #33. While we won't be implementing this feature in protoc-gen-validate, I encourage you to follow the progress in protovalidate.

Given that we are moving forward with protovalidate to enhance the Protobuf ecosystem, I'll be closing this issue. Your involvement and suggestions are appreciated.

Sorry to comment on a closed thread, but we had the same need and ended up implementing it.
