We received an anonymous comment from our workbench feedback form:

I found the R installation and setup steps to be difficult. I am primarily a Python user, and the instructions assumed a lot of familiarity with R.

It was my original intent that the setup instructions would be understandable by a wide audience1, but this comment shows that this is not always the case. I appreciate the honest feedback and would like to improve the setup instructions so that it is more friendly to folks who do not use R.

Thus, I have two questions for folks who do not normally use R:

  1. In what ways does the setup documentation assume a lot of familiarity with R?
  2. Is there any wording that you think can be improved to clarify the instructions?

Please respond with replies to these questions OR edit learners/setup.md and make a pull request

Footnotes

  1. We have achieved some success with folks who do not use R in our Alpha Testing

one thing I noticed it's not explicit where to run the install.package() in the beginning, but later you do say where to run other R commands.
