Sheet metal workaround?

Thank you for the tutorial. It seems it a spot on answer to my needs. I am about to learn from it.

The one thing I noticed is th Sheet metal note: "Sheet metal doesn't work with cut parts, so you have to use PartDesign to create the base and create the windows with "Pocket" operations." Is the note still valid?
I've noticed the tutorial was noted down some 3 years ago. So I am wondering if there's still the issue with Sheet metal.

I have my enclosure design done in Sheet metal. If it still doesn't work with cut parts, then maybe exporting the enclosure to a STEP file and importing it back again would do the trick?
