This group aims to provide a friendly introduction to R for data science. My aim is to get you up and going with basic data analysis skills in R, so that you can solve your data problems faster. You can use R to import, transform, and visualize data, and you don't have to write complicated code!
Also, did you know you can use R to write interactive webapps, make websites, and create dashboards? We can dive into this in the future...
How often we meet
I am at Chi Hack Night around twice a month (usually the last two weeks of the month), but message the #r-learning group in the Chi Hack Night Slack to check if I'll be there the night you're planning to attend. (Not on the Slack? Join here.)
Beginners, policy people/journalists who want to do more with data, data analysts in government, folks who have a data problem and want to quickly get going with it. All are welcome!
Bring your computer to get the most of this group, but feel free to just listen along as well.
Tools
R, RStudio, Chi Hack Night Slack channel #r-learning
I'm teaching the "tidyverse", which is a series of packages in R that make it easy to get started with learning how to code. Read more about why I choose to teach the tidyverse.
I choose to follow Software Carpentry's guidelines for teaching technology and encourage you to follow them if you're teaching others!
