From Fligtar: when browsing a category, the options under the Explore block on the left (e.g. Featured, Most Popular) could be misinterpreted as facets rather than second-level navigation.
For example, imagine you were browsing 'Appearance' add-ons, then clicked 'Show All >>' to look at Featured add-ons. What would you expect to happen when if you clicked 'Most Popular' in the left menu? Would you expect to be shown the most popular Appearance add-ons (e.g. faceted browsing)? Or would you expect to be taken to the most popular add-ons, period (second-level nav)? Right now, it behaves like the latter, but many people might expect the former.
Fligtar's suggestion was to remove the Explore block when you drill down by category. This would eliminate the confusion about what those options (Featured, Most Popular) apply to. However, if people interpreted what appears on the left as secondary nav, they might be confused when the Explore block disappeared.
Try to find a compromise. A few ideas:
Create an A/B test with the Explore block present/absent when browsing categories. See how it affects bounce rates.
Make the left nav actually behave like facets, but add a way to remove each facet.
