📃 Iteration 56 roadmap

This post outlines our targets for the upcoming iteration. The goal is to provide a summary of where we are going.

New features / enhancements

• Typing improvements (migration to beforeInput, better IME support) – this will span across a few iterations.
• Migration to TypeScript – this will span across a few iterations. First packages were already converted 🍾
• Accessibility improvements – this will span across a few iterations, the first batch of changes: #11981.
• Track changes integration with new features: code blocks ✅, HTML embed ✅, document lists, styles dropdown ✅, image URL balloon. This will be released gradually.
• Ability to generate a package written in TypeScrpit using CKEditor 5 Package Generator.

Bug fixes

• A batch of improvements for the table column resize feature – including its operability with other features, stability and polished internals.

Finally, some more bug fixes and minor improvements are planned for the 56th iteration. See the list of issues closed in the current iteration for more details.

Documentation

• Two new tutorials were added: an all new basic feature tutorial and a 3-part tutorial about creating an "Abbreviation" feature.

Development environment

• The manual tests runner got a new feature: it now displays a notification while the tests are being rebuild. It should significantly improve the DX while working with manual tests.

Dates

The code freeze is planned for Aug 24th, 2022, followed by releasing npm packages on Aug 31st, 2022.

Please keep in mind that these plans are subject to change, and even though we put all our energy into delivering all the items mentioned above, the iteration plan may change at any point.
