This roadmap is broken down by quarters, detailing key actions and milestones to improve recruitment, retention, engagement, development, and communication with volunteers.


Quarter Focus Area Key Actions Milestones
Q1 (Jan - Mar) Recruitment & Diversity - Develop a volunteer recruitment strategy targeting diverse groups (gender, age, disability). - Launch volunteer recruitment campaign (Feb).
- Create clear volunteer role descriptions and ensure accessibility of the application process for people with disabilities. - Achieve X% increase in applicants from diverse backgrounds.
- Partner with local organizations, schools, and NGOs to recruit volunteers in key regions. - Set up partnerships with 3-5 organizations.
- Implement a fast and efficient screening process to improve the time to fill volunteer roles. - Reduce time to fill positions by X%.
Onboarding & Training - Develop and implement an onboarding program that includes training on CLENT Africa’s mission and the volunteer’s role. - Onboard new volunteers with 100% training completion (Mar).
- Schedule the first round of volunteer development workshops (skills training, climate knowledge, etc.). - Conduct 2 training workshops by the end of Q1.
Satisfaction & Feedback - Implement the first volunteer satisfaction survey to collect insights on recruitment and onboarding. - Launch first survey by March.

- Introduce a recognition program (monthly volunteer awards, social media shout-outs, etc.) to motivate volunteers and acknowledge their contributions. - Launch recognition program by May.
Training & Development - Continue skill development programs, introducing more advanced workshops and leadership training for long-term volunteers. - Conduct 2 more training sessions (1 focused on leadership).
Retention & Tenure - Begin tracking volunteer tenure and analyze reasons for attrition (conduct exit interviews). - Set a goal to achieve X% retention rate by the end of Q2.
Satisfaction & Feedback - Run the second volunteer satisfaction survey to assess their experience in Q1 and Q2 and areas of improvement. - Collect feedback and analyze results from second survey (June).

Volunteer Feedback - Collect more in-depth feedback through focus groups or 1:1 interviews with volunteers, particularly long-tenured or high-performing individuals. - Conduct 3 focus groups by September to gather qualitative feedback.

Development & Leadership - Create a long-term volunteer development plan (1-2 years), including advanced leadership tracks, project management roles, and capacity-building opportunities. - Develop a clear leadership path and development plan by Q4 end.
Recruitment for Next Year - Begin a recruitment drive for the next year’s projects, focusing on specific skill gaps identified throughout the year. - Recruit X% of needed volunteers for the next year by December.
Fundraising and Donations Drive - Tie volunteer stories to year-end fundraising campaigns, encouraging donations to fund volunteer-driven projects (e.g., tree planting, renewable energy). - Launch year-end donations campaign in December.

Key Priorities for Each Quarter:

  • Q1: Focus on building a strong recruitment pipeline and onboarding process.
  • Q2: Increase volunteer engagement, satisfaction, and retention through recognition and development.
  • Q3: Track and report volunteer impact, elevate volunteers to leadership roles, and foster community.
  • Q4: Celebrate success, retain volunteers for the next year, and encourage donations tied to volunteer achievements.

Annual Goals:

  • Recruitment: Bring in a diverse pool of volunteers and reduce the time to fill volunteer roles.
  • Retention: Increase retention rates and reduce attrition by focusing on volunteer satisfaction.
  • Engagement: Ensure high volunteer participation in projects and provide development opportunities.
  • Impact: Measure and report on volunteer contributions to CLENT Africa’s climate and renewable energy projects.
  • Recognition: Celebrate volunteer achievements regularly, culminating in a year-end event.
  • Donations: Link volunteer efforts to donation drives, encouraging supporters to fund specific climate actions.
