Is it possible to change out the hot key values without recompiling/building the full applications? Ctrl-W an important key combo in VI for navigating splits and I would like to unset it.

Yes it's in the settings -> Keys & Macros

(to open the setting it's in the menu opened by pressing the blue "sandwich" button on the bottom right corner)
