it seems dummy face is doing nothing in ccn-lite-peek:

struct ccnl_face_s dummyFace;

memory space set to all zeros here

ccn-lite/src/ccnl-utils/src/ccn-lite-peek.c

Line 158 in da0d9de

memset(&dummyFace, 0, sizeof(dummyFace));

no further usage in code, I guess it was supposed to be removed.
