PROBLEM:
There is the squiggly line backdrop on the progress bar, that is there to show people popular parts of the video.
It's ugly and stupid, contributing to the goldfish attention span and group think.

Progress Bar

SOLUTION:
Create a feature that gives us the ability to hide this graphic.
Or perhaps a toggle button, where it can be quickly enabled for rare times it would be actually useful.
Maybe even the hiding of the little red dots they put on the progress bar itself. The "most relevant moments" markers.

RELEVANCE / SCOPE:
YouTube playback.

I forgot to add an alternative:
This progress graphic relies on data about that video. A complete block of downloading that data to the computer would be ideal. Not just hiding the graphic. There is no point wasting internet resources if and when we don't use the graphic.

Also notice that the 'Improve YouTube' colored progress bar is shifted off of the standard progress bar, so there is two progress bars showing. Probably because of this "popular moments graphic".

⚬ Additional Enhancements:

  • User Feedback Integration: Launch as a beta feature to gather and incorporate user feedback.

  • Customization Enhancements: Offer profile-based settings and smart defaults based on user behavior.

  • Analytics and Monitoring: Track feature usage and its impact on user engagement to inform future improvements.

⚬ Example User Flow:

  1. Access Settings: The user navigates to YouTube settings and selects "Playback Preferences."
  2. Adjust Preferences: The user toggles the option to hide overlays.
  3. Apply Changes: The progress bar updates in real time to reflect the new settings.
  4. Provide Feedback: User shares their experience through integrated feedback forms.
