SHORT Table (Summary)
Problem Mainstream content on youtube
Solution Better Blocklist
Alternatives
Scope Channel Blocking
Side effects Missing videos
Context

So I appreciate the feature as it currently stands. From what I see it only grays out the videos in search and not in the sidebar. What would be really cool is to replicate functionality of the old "DeMainstream" extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/de-mainstream-youtube/dkcdmdpcapjlaoioeenamjdanpeehjan

All this really means is getting rid of the gray overlay and hiding the video completely and applying it to search, next up, sidebar, etc. Currently all it's doing it "hiding" the video which isn't really helpful since it still takes up the same space and I can see it through the block. The whole point of the block is to never see these channels again.

What say you?

Also, another quick note. The X to ban a specific video is huge and not sure I'd ever want to ban a single video vs the entire channel. Appears very easy to click accidentally.

So its just not finished? Right now it's just hiding channels but really not since you can see the gray video. I don't have as much of a problem of accidentally viewing the video as it taking up the space of another recommendation I'd rather view instead. Block kinda means block. I'll try the mentioned extension and see how it fares, don't think that one is open source and in terms of chrome that is a big red flag.

channel blocker extension does block but prevents youtube player controls from hiding. you get the progress bar, etc 100% of the time.

hi, yes.
noone really started yet afaik. just thought you might be interested in the whole post(thought process) also leading to issue37 @ de-Mainstream etc. We can enhance the plan and start or lead implementation.
