Data on Open FI$Cal is published with little change from its original format in the FI$Cal system.

Converting California's data into a standardized open format could facilitate sharing and comparison with other governments' financial data.

Possibilities include:

Useful work on this issue could include:

  • Analyzing the suggested (or other!) formats, comparing to California's data, suggesting an appropriate standard.
  • Creating a demonstration of what California's data would look like in one or more of the standardized formats.

I suggest you consider XBRL-CSV for this requirement. The standard can be seen here: http://www.xbrl.org/REQ/xbrl-csv-requirements/REQ-2019-08-07/xbrl-csv-requirements-2019-08-07.html#2-use-cases.

One of the contributors is based in Southern California and may be willing to offer some guidance on this.
