Configurations (in a much simplified form) should exist in code alongside the objects they configure, not in a separate module. Specific combinations of configs are what i would call "Profiles"...

also, it would be very useful to have a few examples about how to configure the viewer. the system is very complicated, and to me it is not at all clear how i set, for example, the near, far, fov, etc of the camera if i want to look at a large object...
