  • moderation
    • needed for large audience talks : part of the room "team" should allow/disallow specific questions from audience for big talks
  • transfer from chat
    • with crowdcast it was duty of moderator to periodically remind participants to ask in the Q&A not in the chat. If there could be an easy way to transfer a post/thread to Q&A -- would be an awesome feature

HOWTO:

  • could may be organized as a part of the (mattermost) chat
    • a dedicated Q&A "channel" for the room, so each room would have Chat and Q&A
    • a thread per each Q
    • emoticons to vote (but no way probably to sort)

Some notes from slack, also posted to #4 on the "chat" component

Re Q&A: I saw some mini-conf's just directing to some "proper" Q&A platform, so in principle, we could integrate e.g. with https://neurostars.org or have our own Discorse instance (e.g. here is one for our department https://www.askpbs.org) -- would again become a persistent solution beyond OHBM meeting. Discorse also has polls functionality. So it would be just a matter of organizing and "cross-reference"ing with chat nicely (well, there is an extension for discourse to cross-post/notify to chat ).
Having chat (short, rapid) + discorse (slower, more detailed, up/down votes etc -- you can already see the need with all these monstrous posts without order here in the slack) instance for Q&A (and polls) then integrated with "conference venue" platform might be the most ideal (in terms of functionality) and sustainable long term solution.

Discourse could be (like non-open disqus) could be embedded into webpages (see e.g. https://blog.codinghorror.com/welcome-to-the-internet-of-compromised-things/#discourse-comments ). So that OHBM discourse instance could be used for comments etc on some (if not all) OHBM meeting or just organization website. Again -- just a matter of coming up with nice organization/tagging scheme
