Reopening Schools, Colleges and Universities

You are the strategic planning team for the Chief Technology Officer for the State’s Department of Education. To help ensure the city’s 1.1 million school children and 300,000 college students are able to start learning again, you are tasked with developing a strategy to open the city’s schools, colleges or universities. Each group should select one of these levels of the education system to focus their proposal.

What are the challenges and constraints of reopening these facilities safely in order to help support the city’s children, teachers, parents and others?

Using the tools of urban technology develop an approach to safely open these facilities. Tools can include data analytics, novel approaches to mobility, use of AI, IoT technologies, ICT, automation and computer vision. Part of this challenge should include a comprehensive plan that includes accommodating a range of students ages and learning levels.

You will be graded on the creativity and comprehensiveness of your approach and your innovative use of the tools of urban technology to support the safe reopening of this system.

Additional credit will be given for ideas on how to create a more resilient educational system to protect the system in the case of future pandemics

As part of this project, you will develop a brief group presentation that includes the following minimum requirements;

Analysis

Identify the impacts of school closures on other urban systems.

What are the challenges for safely reopening schools?

Proposal

Identify Goals of the Reopening and define metrics of success.

Develop Solutions to the Challenge leveraging the Tools of Urban Technology
