This may be part of #1524 or other upcoming overhauls, but wanted to bring it up explicitly.

I've had the need to have identical field layouts, used by multiple sections (for URL pattern/site propagation reasons).

If I understand #1524…would I put these fields into a "set", and then be able to attach them to each element type?
