The proposal is a breaking change with way too much impact and a very limited upside. I see no good reason to add this to Cucumber-JVM.

While it's nice to have it supported in some implementations but it doesn't follow that it should be supported in all.

While it is suggested as a feature toggle this toggle would have to be on by default to be noticed - making it a breaking change. If not turned on by default it would effectively be ignored as it would go unnoticed.

And considering the overall priorities I'd say this won't happen in the foreseeable future. So as not clutter up the backlog I'm closing this.

Is there any pointers/gotchas/starting points/advice for anybody that might pick this up for implementation?

I think it's a great feature, with a real upside for writing and trusting scenario steps are doing as the keywords imply.
