Localisation Addition - Romanised Urdu #248
Comments
Hi! Thanks for opening this issue. Explanation on how to add a new localization can be found in the gherkin repo; https://github.com/cucumber/gherkin/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md The docs regularly update the localization based on that repository as well. |
I've moved issue to Gherkin repo. |
@kpjfairns this sounds reasonable. Please feel free to provide a pull request. |
@kpjfairns, would you be able to provide a translation for a single 'Scenario' and single 'Example'? Looks like everything else is there. The present "Urdu" dialect is also missing a Rule translation if an appropriate value is something you could advise on? |
🤔 What's the problem you're trying to solve?
Due to the standard of EN/EU keyboards not having the necessary characters to correctly type in scripts that are not latin character based, there is a population that writes in Romanised versions of the languages that are currently supported in their native scripts, one such being Urdu.
Adding these will allow for better transliteration of business needs within communities of developers (or even for language students, should cucumber be used that way) that have a need for a Romanised script of the languages in question (second generation Urdu speakers, who have grown up in an environment that caters towards Latin scripts, in this instance)
✨ What's your proposed solution?
Introduce ur-latn as a hybrid localisation:
These transliterations should maintain the original Urdu meanings while using Latin characters for ease of use when it comes to EN/EU keyboards
⛏ Have you considered any alternatives or workarounds?
There currently is no support for this version of Urdu, hence the suggestion of the keywords needed
