A play based on the "french 4chan" #33
Comments
I started coding some stuff to crawl the posts, clean the HTML, loop to next pages of a topic and manage the smileys, the repo is here : https://github.com/WhiteFangs/theatre-jeuxvideocom |
Ok, so November for me has been hell of a month (and when I say hell, I mean it, believe me, I live in Paris) and I couldn't take as much time as I wanted initially to code for this NaNoGenMo. I have a small draft in the repo I posted before, I'll try to code something functionnal to get the challenge complete before tomorrow night hopefully, otherwise I'll finish it without pressure when I can. |
It's a bit late here in France, but I did something that works :

Congratulations! Reading plays in text brings to mind Shakespeare for me, so it's interesting to see the extremely contemporary language of forums in a play context. More so it being in French and harder to read, but with English-ish bits and pieces.

I'm really happy to participate again to this project, so I thought about it for a few weeks already and I have two ideas, I'll create an issue for the other one if I have time to complete this first one.
For the first one, I intend to generate a play of +50k words in french based on the forum posts of the website Jeuxvideo.com (biggest french website on video games)
The "Blabla" forums of Jeuxvideo.com are famous for being the "french 4chan" although posts don't vanish and boards are more organized and moderated. Still, a lot of very ugly and/or strange things are posted every day and the community around there can be really scary, funny and/or just weird.
The idea was inspired by a news article about the forums of this website The title helps to get a glimpse of what can be found there : "Antisemitism, homophobia, fanatism", and we could add a lot more to the list. Anyway, at one point, the journalist writes "This forum, it's like a play, sometimes funny, sometimes tragic." That gave me the idea.
I plan to mostly use two of the main boards of the forums that are "Blabla 15-18" and "Blabla 18-25" (it's an "age" classification) where teenagers and young adults talk about anything and everything. I will translate most common smileys into stage directions next to the dialogues and do a scene for every different topic.
I have to think about some filtering for the topics maybe (use topics that are not too long nor too short), and maybe try to add some thematic or binding between each scene.
