Short description

#7681 (opened on May 22 and merged on May 24) accidentally got overwritten by #7368 (which was opened on Apr 17 and merged on Jun 20).

So #7632 never made it into the 1.6.0 release on Jul 31, 2023.

Acceptance criteria

Same acceptance criteria as #7632.

Impact to Other Teams

No known impact.

Will backports be required?

Since this was originally slated for 1.6, we could optionally backport this to 1.7.latest and 1.6.latest.

Context

See #7681 (comment) for context.
