Y axis auto range/zoom but no scroll.

I might be missing something obvious, but can't find a combination that allows me to fixrange in the yaxis but still allow zooming.
I thought maybe autorange_after_scroll might do it, but seems not. Any Ideas?

eg, I want to zoom into the lows and negative values on the left:

The bars stay same height and the zoomed bars in focus are still unreadable:

leaving out fixedrange auto ranges correctly, but it's all too easily to "get lost" in the depth of the empty yaxis...

autorange_after_scroll would help if you don't fix the range. What that does is removing all data which is not currently visible and letting plotly autoscale, but if you fix the range, then autoscaling doesn't do anything.

This doesn't help because it leaves the chart able to scroll up and down, I guess I just want the bottom of the axis (usually 0, but sometimes negative) to stay at the same place, able to scroll left and right (but not up and down) and auto adjusting the top of the y range according to what is visible.

Oh, I see what you want. I don't think that is possible (to scroll only on x while autoranging y)
The closest thing is to set autorange_after_scroll: true and not fix the y range. To scroll on x only you'll have to grab on top of the x axis values.

I didn't know that you could grab just the axis and scroll or zoom only that axis depending on where you grab it (top or bottom for zoom and somewhere in the middle for scroll). Unfortunately that doesn't work if fixed, but it does help when now fixed. It's a pity that the up/down and left/right mouse pointer does not differentiate between zoom and scroll, but can probably get used to it with use.

To zoom you can use the scroll wheel (or two finger drag on touchpads).
Also you can change the default grag mode (scroll or area zoom) with some parameter I forgot the name of
