mp4 audio file format not supported for sharing on Whatsapp

When I record format and try to share the mp4 file via whatsapp, I get the following error:
"The file format is not supported". I don't see any options within SoundRecorder to customise the file format.

It would be good to provide a format which can be shared via popular apps. (And it would be good if whatsapp didn't insist on messing with the data I'm trying to send. I have written to them, but I figure that policy will be more entrenched.)

If you point me in the direction of where to add support, I'd be happy to have a go at it myself.
