Only Distroless/Chiseled Images for .NET Monitor 8+
Starting with .NET Monitor 8, the types of Docker images for .NET Monitor that will be produced by the .NET team will be reduced to distroless and Ubuntu Chiseled (pending general availability) images only.
Background
The set of images offered for .NET Monitor 6 and 7 contain a combination of distroful, distroless, and Ubuntu Chiseled (currently only offered in preview) images.
In general, distroful base images, such as CBL-Mariner and Alpine, are meant for customers to build their applications and deploy them onto these images and install any additional dependencies that are necessary. The .NET Monitor Docker images are uniquely different in that they are considered "appliance" images; they are intended to be used as-is without needing to install any other files or dependencies on them (except for configuration, which is typically either mounted or provided via environment variables).
Due to their "appliance"-like nature, these images do not require utilities or other executables unrelated to the .NET Monitor tool to be available. By moving to only providing distroless and Ubuntu Chiseled (pending general availability) images, the .NET Monitor tool can be provided as a smaller payload with faster acquisition and as a more secure offering.
Details
The distroful Alpine and CBL-Mariner images will not be produced for .NET Monitor 8 and forward.
The following tag patterns (and their associated images and manifests) will not be produced starting with .NET Monitor 8:

The preceding tags are not a commitment to the exact naming pattern; they are listed to explain that the CBL-Mariner Distroless and Ubuntu Chiseled images will still be produced.
