drush si seems to be broken with D8 and PHP 5.5

I am trying to install D8 HEAD (it works through the GUI) and drush si gets stuck after /usr/bin/php -d magic_quotes_gpc=Off -d magic_quotes_runtime=Off -d magic_quotes_sybase=Off /usr/local/drush/drush.php --php=/usr/bin/php --php-options=' -d magic_quotes_gpc=Off -d magic_quotes_runtime=Off -d magic_quotes_sybase=Off' --backend=2 --root=/home/chx/www/system --uri=http://default sql-query 'SHOW TABLES' 2>&1 [3.22 sec, 9.27 MB]

#76 has error messages. I don't have any error messages just a stuck drush. Note: I am on PHP 5.5.

Yes, perhaps the symptoms are different, but I thought it would be most convenient to try to reproduce and fix all of the site-install issues at the same time.

PHP 5.5 might be a factor here, though.
