this are some thoughts about using composer for installing magmi. The problem for me is that magmi creates configuration profiles inside itself and when a new version is released composer removes the old package and installs a new one, erasing all saved profiles and configurations. Do you have any solution about this. May be profiles have to be placed inside a core magento folder such a media/magmi or var/magmi. Another solution is to map each folder from magmi package in the modman file instead of mapping the whole package.It will be interesting form what you think about.
