@finnhodgkin @ZooeyMiller take a quick look at this one if you still have time after dwyl SEO and let us know if there are any quick changes we can make

might be a completely different ballgame though as this site is on squarespace

Gitter me for login details to the online config

There are quite a few things to change:

  • Add location high on the page in writing. The only section with Bethnal Green or Mile End is the "things near by" image, which search engines will completely ignore. There's an address, but my guess is that the majority of people will search for less specific locations than 16 palmers road, London, E2 OSY.
  • Add alt text to all images. No images have alt text so the "Our community" and "Things near by" sections might as well not exist.
  • Make the community images links.
  • Make the about page accessible / remove it. The only way I can get to the about page -- which seems to be WIP anyway -- is to view the site in mobile and then click through the hamburger menu. I think either the about page should be dropped or it should be clickable from the front page and filled with more appropriate content.
  • Add a paragraph about what's actually on offer. The only place that specifically says 'co-working space' is the title. It would be good to get a short info text advertising exactly what's on offer. Some examples from top-result sites for co-working space e2 include:

London office space for up to 100 people
at The Brew Shoreditch Stables, Shoreditch

A stunning private office space in a three-storey Victorian building. This
beautifully light-filled workspace has lots of character with its high ceiling, exposed
brick walls and wood floors. Shoreditch Stables benefits from a fantastic
location on Kingsland Road and with its all-inclusive pricing,
it is the perfect alternative to pricey office space in London. The space is
available with or without ergonomic office chairs and desks included.

or

WORKSPACE FROM JUST £3.50 + VAT PER HOUR
No deposits. No sign-up fees. Just ultra-flexible
hot desking that lets you pay as you go.

It may be less interesting / fun than the paragraph on the science of Deep Work, but it's still important information that's not really being communicated.

Unrelated site issues

I noticed a couple of other non-SEO things that could be addressed at the same time:

  • The hamburger menu is white so it disappears as soon as the page is scrolled down. IMO it would be better to just have it stick to the top, rather than distracting the eye by popping in and out of existence.
  • The 'Things near by' image doesn't scale well. On mobile it's way too small to read and on a standard HD laptop screen it's a bit blurry.

Thought - perhaps this should wait until the gh pages site replaces to squarespace site

@markwilliamfirth What are the plans and timelines for a gh pages site?
I remember us discussing this as a 'when we need to make a change' possibility but nothing concrete.

@iteles I think I could throw up a gh site relatively quickly and this would mean we could stop paying for squarespace, so might be good to do this one soon

One day of your time will pay for well over a year of squarespace so I don't think money is the driver here 😉

@iteles I mean I could throw one up in a few hours, if you want to timebox it then we can do that
