1080p is fine

If you don't need the portability of the M4 and other cameras, then another camera with a bigger body can give you the same quality for a lower price

Again, this depends on your budget and use case. The M4 is expensive because it is the same quality of a DSLR, but in a tiny package.

One of the most common cameras among YouTubers is the Canon 7D, but this is very expensive.

I was considering getting a DMC-FZ1000EB http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMC-FZ1000EB-Bridge-Camera-25-400mm/dp/B00M0LQVEQ because it has the 4K sensor decent lens and swivel screen for self-recording. but unless we need the massive zoom, the M4 does all the things...

Is it worth noting that we already have 2 DSLRs in the house which aren't bad? One of which is often used for video (though I'll admit I know very little about it)?

@iteles when was the last time you tried using the 7D for Video? its practically a jack-hammer (noisy!) by all means bring them down and lets try out tomorrow. 👍

Thankfully two people in DWYL bought one; @jackcarlisle & @sohilpandya both got the 7 Plus which means I don't have to fork out an eye-watering $649 on a new phone in order to test it out for our videos... 😉

Which is why I got the Sony Xperia Z5 last year. I still think that a dedicated device can have advantages over a mobile phone camera for the purposes of recording tutorials or events.

Also, I've only ever owned Sony Compact cameras so would need to buy Lenses too...! 😮 💸

Whereas the GH5 is expected to be $2k including a good lens... but we'll see...
