We should implement it by composing code yeoman generator.

Could you provide more details on this, please? There is https://github.com/eclipse/theia-yeoman-plugin , maybe this ticket belongs there?

I'm not sure, I was thinking to convert this generator to Theia application generator supporting different layouts, i.e. only Theia extensions, only VS Code extensions or combined. It would allow to setup examples as well showing how Theia and VS Code extensions can interact.
