Hi @dedemorton and @lcawl, please let me know if I can help with this issue/associated PRs. Thanks! |
@ycombinator Thanks. I met with Lisa and agreed that I would work on the content about monitoring Beats, but I haven't started yet. I fell into a security rabbit hole earlier this week. I plan to get started soon and will reach out to you if I have questions. Thanks! |
Hi @dedemorton and @lcawl . Is the plan to have both Logstash and Beats covered in this document or are they still going to be separate PRs? Please let @ycombinator or myself know if we can help out at all here. Thanks! |
@cachedout I'm actually working on the beats updates this week. I'm close, but feeling under the weather today. Hoping to have a PR up by EOD if I can manage it. |

@dedemorton Thank you! I hope you feel better soon. :) |
Resolved via #13090 and elastic/stack-docs#404. |
Going forward, the plan is for stack products to be monitored with Metricbeat instead of the products internally monitoring themselves. So far this plan has been implemented for Elasticsearch and Kibana.
For Elasticsearch, see https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/configuring-metricbeat.html. Note that this page is linked to from https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/configuring-monitoring.html and https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/collecting-monitoring-data.html.
For Kibana, see https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/monitoring-metricbeat.html. Note that this page is linked to from https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/configuring-monitoring.html and https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/monitoring-kibana.html.
We will need equivalent documentation pages for each Beat as well, as Metricbeat has gained the ability to monitor Beats starting 7.3.0.
