Discover currently displays this message when the payload setting is off.

At minimum, we should update the text.

Start searching

  1. Set the time range.
  2. Enter your query.
  3. Click Refresh.

Learn more in our docs

Even better would be to make this message look like our other empty states. For example:

Thx Gail, qq to @andreadelrio , this message is displayed to users who prefer to manually start the search initially. Would the "No results match your search criteria" image fit for this? Since if I see correctly, there's a fly, but it escaped our search. in this case we have started searching for the fly

I'd prefer if we could use another illustration for that, since the illustration we chose for the "no documents found" I feel really expresses that somehow well. Using the same illustration for a completely different state (the user has not yet initiated any search with us), will just cause a confusing correlation between those two very different screens, and users might get to one screen, mentally linking the illustration with it, then e.g. starting their search and not getting results, but still seeing the same illustration making it harder to differntiate what is going on. I'd rather use an illustrationt hat illustrates that the user has yet to start searching.

+1 for using a different illustration

Agreed, however since it's a screen most users newer will see (need to enable it in Advanced setting), don't think we should put to much effort in it. So if there's a fitting illustration for this available, let's use it. Else I'd suggest just adapting the text

++ to just adopting the text change with link to docs. When @gchaps and I spoke about this, it was more around the helper text so the user was able to get to some relevant results. The picture is a nice to have.

Is this being actively worked on?

@VijayDoshi We're currently not actively implementing this. As soon as there is a decision about the wording and the illustration we can pick this up.

Closing this because it's not planned to be resolved in the foreseeable future. It will be tracked in our Icebox and will be re-opened if our priorities change. Feel free to re-open if you think it should be melted sooner.
