Visual Builder Can’t use overall aggregation as input to another aggregation #12709

I'd like to build the metric I described here. Basically, I want to be able to use the overall sum aggregation as the input for a calculation aggregation. Currently you can not use any overall aggregation(sum, average, etc) as an input to a calculation.

This is not feasible due to the limitations of how Elasticsearch pipeline aggregations work. You can't use a sibling aggregation in a bucket_script (which is what powers the calculation) aggregation.

Resolving this as support was added in 2017 🎉

  • Lens supports this via custom formula
  • TSVB added support via the PR above
