API to import/export entire kibana index #5431

@rashidkpc Is the idea that such an import API would also support validation of the dashboards / visualizations / searches? Means for example, if a dashboard is imported, it checks if the visualizations for it also exist? |

@ruflin there was no plan to implement any validation of the incoming data. The assumption would be that you exported from a kibana instance and are importing to a new one. |
We have (security aware) APIs nowadays to export/import all saved objects. Also on a lower level (if you are not thinking in Kibana's security realms) the already mentioned snapshot API would work. I'll close this issue for now, since I think there's currently no reason for that anymore. @epixa since that would anyway more fall into the Platform teams responsibility I ping you here, so you can feel free to reopen this if you disagree. |
While you can do this with snapshot/restore the kibana index is probably small enough that this should be possible. This would be helpful both to folks migrating and/or cloning instances, and in support cases.
