[index patterns] method of exposing specific field dependencies - investigations

Index patterns tend to be fragile when the field list changes, resulting in errors in the apps that rely on index patterns. It would be preferable to notice that a required field is missing before performing the task that relies on said field. This would also provide confidence when altering index patterns as we could highlight whether the required fields have been provided.

This is an investigation that should result in an implementation plan.
