Laptop unable to boot installed OS after trying out OS 8.0 (in try/demo mode) #849

What Happened?

After trying out elementaryos-8.0-stable.20241025rc on a laptop with elementary OS 7.x installed, the installed OS (7.x) is no longer able to boot.

Steps to Reproduce

Boot from a USB drive loaded with OS 8
Go into "Try without installing" mode
From the booted OS 8 desktop, choose to shutdown
Remove the installation media and press ENTER when prompted
Press the start button on the laptop to boot up the installed OS
The screen goes black after the grub menu and nothing happens after that

Expected Behavior

The installed OS boots up

OS Version

8.x (Early Access)

Session Type

Classic Session (X11, This is the default)

Software Version

Latest release (I have run all updates)

Log Output

No response

Hardware Info

An old Dell Precision 5510 with dual graphics
