Fantastic job by the EVCC team to support setting a smart cost limit for charging. I know most people here will be happy to monitor the prices and set the limit accordingly. Unfortunately not every family member is equally excited and therefore I was looking for a better way to get family buy-in.
I implemented it the following way in home assistant:
I do calculate the cheapest price I can achieve within the next 12 hours to load my car
SOC of car battery, charge needed, charge time needed and then I look for the low price window for the needed time
this gives me the cheapest price I can get in the next 12h if I need to load my car
I display this cheapest price for the next 12h continuously at home on a small display - with a rating red, yellow, green - when under 21 cents the traffic light is green - a green Pacman with the price which can be achieved in the next 12h
Now if you want to secure the charging price all you need to do is to plug in the car and evcc cost limit is set accordingly to the lowest price available in the next 12h
Interested in your solutions - but my family initial reaction to the model is promising. No need to get an evcc education ;)
