how to keep markdown symbols and style them?

in discord, message editor shows both symbols and it's rich render output. however, in lexical playground, converting a word into code converts a text node to code node. while this is the default behavior for lexical, slate and notion, i find the discord solution superior because it's less error prone, such as inline code extending to unexpected legion. however, i was unable to find docs on how to achieve this.
