I tried install of each ARPL version (USB clean install) and I also tried update function from previous version via "Update Menu" like below table.

It seems current ARPL have some problem after beta8 and many user have same problem.

Please check below result and help me.

Hi, what is your network card?
Try to enable direct boot (inside advanced menu) too.

ah, about "grub error" is a bug with new grub, the updater do not replace the MBR code, only works with uefi. In this case only reflashing

Thank you so much.

Regarding the "grub error", your mention is right. I've changed BIOS mode to UEFI and update function works greate.
BTW, pleae see my updated test result. In case of USB clean install, I cannot find out DSM server on my network.
my network adaptor is "Intel i350-based 1GbE NIC".
And my config likes below...

sn=Custom SN
.
.
.

netif_num=2
mac1: Custom mac1
mac2: Custom mac2

Thank you for making this list. This is exactly what I want to express. Since Beta3, DSM cannot boot after using more than 2 hard disks. After Beta12 was released, I tested it at the first time. The result is still the same. After that, I carefully checked whether there is no network.

I'm trying to figure out what I did to cause this weird problem!

@yanyisio

i tested beta 13 ,the problem still on。
If I don't insert the hard disk, I can start normally, but if I insert four hard disks, I can't boot DSM, and there is no network。

I also have 4 disks (three HDD, one SSD) and I have same symptoms.

Tried beta 2, 3, 13 & 'test1-morethan2disks' , but for some reason it keeps feeezing on DSM boot and network drops too.

Also, looks like the USB key is being tied onto the first 1166 sata controller? Which I wouldn't have thought it should? as that's only an 8 port SATA controller card.

Hardware is as below,

USB key is not shown here. Your usb key must appear on the USB bus, this screen only shows the SATA buses.

For now those who have the RTL8111H are not able to use it. I'm trying to figure out why the r8169 and r8168 modules don't work with this chip!

Thought as much, looking at the dmesg output it shows [ 0.979347] ata2: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300) but yet it's highlighted as green in the drive display, maybe this is causing the freezing once DSM is booted, a false positive maybe or is this the intended design, some temporary driver getting attached?

Thanks again for the head up about this chipset. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

Please do a test. Update modules, go to menu advanced, modules, Choose modules to include. Leave the r8168 module selected and deselect the r8125 and r8169 modules.
Rebuild the loader and test.

So got the same result, as soon as it starts 'Booting...' it drops out and freezes the whole system, network lighs go out too.
I also tried setting sataportmap to 810800 and 010800 to try and skip the first SATA controller incase that was the issue with the fantom drive 'ata2', but got the same result after 'Booting...' message.

Try now to select only r8169 and deselect r8125 and r8168
SataPortMap accepts only one digit for controller. Try:

SataPortMap: 682611

Got the same result, freezing. I also tried it without the r8152 module (USB nic), same result. Just incase there was some interferance.

Tried the r8125 too on it's own, as the driver indicates it's for the RTL8111H family - https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/network-interface-controllers-10-100-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-pci-express-software
The RTL8111H Supports 1-Lane 2.5Gbps PCI Express Bus, but in my hardware it's limited to 1Gbps -https://www.realtek.com/en/products/communications-network-ics/item/rtl8111h-s-cg

SataPortMap accepts only one digit for controller. Try:

SataPortMap: 682611

Also tried this. From my understanding though, each digit repisented the number of drives on the controllers, meaning second number is the number of drives avilible/connected on second controller, and so on?https://gugucomputing.wordpress.com/2018/11/11/experiment-on-sata_args-in-grub-cfg

On a side note, just tried without any of the Realtek modules loaded, and it still froze, so most likely related to something else? The above testing might not be of any use because of this?

The drives do have a raid6 on them (11 of them do anyway) I'm hoping when I get DSM installed it will start the migration process. Not 100% sure if this is causing the freezing either though.

Ok, thanks for the test.
Just to clarify, the DSM kernel doesn't show anything on the screen, so it's normal to stay on that screen.
To have a console, you need to add the "console" addon.

Yup, added the console addon too, but as the system just freezes, I can't interact with it. Cap's lock key won't even come on when it's pressed. so a hard reset is required as Ctrl + Alt + Del don't work either.

I also tried SataPortMap: 010000 too so as to only use the SSD and leave the other drives alone incase of old DSM install interferance.

OK. Using "0" in SataPortMap causes a Kernel Panic.
Each digit of the value of the SataPortMap variable tells how many ports the controller will have. There is a limit of 1 to 9.
First digit is for first controller, second digit for second controller, etc.

About network card, no! I put the latest versions I found and other people tested without success. Realtek cards are problematic!
About the original issue, it should solve if you change the LKM version from "dev" to "prod".

I think v1.0-beta3 is a best stable version.

The issue was happened from beta4 and also latest version v1.1-bata1 have same problem.
(satamapport & HDD is OK, but No DSM on my network)

I aleady tried to switch LKM option DEV to PROD and direct boot, but it still has same problem.

Please check related reason from beta3 to beta4.

yes, i have the same problem
Compilation is complete, select boot to dsm, it will crash
Finally, it was successfully used after returning to v1.0beta3
I have four 16T hard drives
Install and use directly on physical machine
Hope to give developers help and inspiration
At the same time, thank the developers for their selfless dedication
