Backtick ` causes skipped cell

Using a backtick `, even when escaped \`, causes the formatting to skip a cell. Here's an example:

| " | quote
| « | left-pointing double angle quote
| \` | backtick

is formatted into

| symbol        | name                             |
|---------------|----------------------------------|
| "             | quote                            |
| «             | left-pointing double angle quote |
| \` | backtick |                                  |
