in the paper you mention 3 different parameters:

∆φmax, α and γ

however i cant figure out what is α scaling factor in the presented code. Would you be so kind to explain this parameter?

Hi, this parameter has to be set in Matlab's edge detection function.

i see. but why u dont specify it in provided source? looks like you rely on default matlab parameter.
and as far as i know it is "4" by default
