See https://docs.opendap.org/index.php?title=DMR%2B%2B

My initial thoughts:

  • this is all within the context of "hyrax", a DAP server framework. Reference files are only used by the server?
  • can only handle HDF5 with limited encodings
  • scanning is done with CLI, produces XML
  • requires reference files to be put in special locations
  • allows local, HTTP and S3
  • parallel/concurrent access: unknown (depends on client?)
  • No mention of multi-file datasets

See also: https://github.com/OPENDAP/pydmr ; I can't find the repo for the main tool itself, maybe all bundled in hyrax. Perhaps @jgallagher59701 can tag relevant people?

I'll fill in some details: Support for HDF5/4/EOS2 is in various stages but largely complete. HDF4 and -EOS2 is still not released, but is usable by the hardy.

Our work is focused on NASA/ESDIS Earth Data Cloud needs, but aspects like how the DMR++ information is built, where and how it is stored, etc., those are all open to modification.
